Universal Orlando Resort has announced that it will no longer distribute paper maps to its guests. According to reports from Universal Park News Today and other sources, the change will come into effect from today. Universal Studios Florida and Islands of Adventure will no longer hand out paper maps as of Monday.

Universal has been encouraging its guests for years to use the official app to navigate the parks, check wait times for popular attractions, and get the most out of their park experience. The West Coast version of Universal Studios, Universal Studios Hollywood, has already retired paper maps.

The move away from paper maps is part of a more significant trend in the theme park industry. Last year, Disneyland Paris stopped offering paper maps to its guests, joining a growing list of theme parks worldwide that have made similar changes.

It's unclear whether Universal plans to phase out paper maps starting on 1st January or if they will be eliminated at the beginning of the new year. Regardless of the timeline, this marks the end of an era for the Florida theme parks and for guests who have collected paper maps as souvenirs after each visit.
